Our goal is to provide you with great resources to products that we are sure you will love! I got this really cute rolling pin decoration from a family member a while back. They knew I liked plants and thought I could do something with it. I decided my snow drift aloe would look perfect in it. Aloe like well draining soil and prefer a pot with drainage holes. This didn't have any drainage holes, so my first step was to create some. I used an impact driver and a small drill bit....

The string of succulents are considered harder to care for than most succulents by a lot of succulent lovers. They require similar care, but there are some differences. Light  String of pearls will do well in a south or west facing window indoors where they can receive bright direct sunlight. String of dolphins would prefer a so...

Watering is an essential part of caring for any plant. No matter what type of plant you own it is going to need water at some point. Succulents and cacti need a lot less water than your average house plant, but will still need watered. During the winter my succulents get watered once a month. Watering succulents    If I notice wrinkly leaves on my succulents I will water that plant more often, but most get watered once a month. If you are new to succulents and are not sure how often to water you can look at the leaves to see if they are wrinkly. Another way to tell if your succulent needs watered is to stick your finger 2" into the soil if it is dry you can water. If it...

I was really excited about it too. I put it in my kitchen window, which receives afternoon light from a south-facing window. Then I kind of forgot about it. I do this with my succulents on purpose to avoid watering them too soon after purchasing. It gives them time to adjust and most of the time they have been overwatered at whatever store I got them from. The problem here is that prayer plants are not succulents. They don't want direct light all day long and they like to be watered more frequently than succulents. I realized my mistake about 2 weeks later. The leaves were crispy, curling, and dying. The soil was also bone dry. I quickly ...

Crazy plant lady blog is a participant in the Amazon services LLC associates program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com I get commissions for purchases made through links in the post. Today I want to talk about propagation. You can use leaves most succulents in order to create a new baby plant. There are many ways to do this my preferred method is through water propagation. I use a mason jar filled almost all the way up with water.  I use clear plastic wrap on the top and then poke holes in the plastic wrap to stick the succulent leaves in. Make sure leaves have a had a chance to callous before you stick them in the plastic wrap. If they haven't had a chance to callous for a few days they will rot.   Make sure the leaves do not touch the water. I place my water propagations under a blue grow light, but bright indirect light will work as well. Don't give them a direct sun...

It turned out better than I thought it would and is now one of my favorite planters. I have burro tails and climbing aloe growing inside it.  The first step in this project was to cut a hole near the toe of the boot. It was a little tricky due to how many layer lined the inside of the boot. Plus its a steel toe boot so I couldn't get as close to the toe as I would have liked. I used a sharp knife to make the initial cut and then was able to use scissors to cut the rest of the hole. Once I got that cut I used the knife again to start a cut in the lining.  Once I had cut the hole in the top of...

Crazy plant lady blog is a participant in the Amazon services LLC associates program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com I get commissions for purchases made through links in the post.   First let me start by saying I love aloe. I don't use the gel inside the leaves or keep it for its medicinal properties I just love the way it looks. I would buy every aloe I saw if given the chance to. I hear people say my aloes never happy or every time I get aloe it dies. I thought I would write out some care tips and tricks that have worked well for my aloe. Light       Aloe can survive in bright indirect light or full sun. If its in full sun it will need to be acclimated so it doesn't get sunburnt. Yes aloe can get sunburnt. There leaves will turn a red/brown color when exposed to too much light too quickly. I have mine in south and west facing windows and all of them...

Of course I saved them to use for something.      I decided pretty quickly that they would make perfect planters for succulents. I brought them home and cleaned them up. Next I added a small layer of soil to the inside. I started with the plant I was going to put at the top of the shoe by the heel. Once I put it in I filled around the succulent with more soil packing it down slightly to help the succulent stay in place. I continued the same process with the rest of the succulents until I had them all where I wanted them. I have moonstone at the very top, then Aeonium black rose, ne...

Crazy plant lady blog is a participant in the Amazon services LLC associates program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com I get commissions for purchases made through links in the post.  My husband bought two vintage sewing machine table. He had a project in mind for one, but the other one was just collecting dust in our laundry room. I decided I was going to find something to do with it and since I am obsessed with plants naturally I was going to find a way to use it for my some plants.       I of course forgot to get a picture before I started removing the veneer from the top. This was the first step and a long process I used a putty knife to get under the veneer a pull it up. The veneer on the drawer also had to be removed since it was already chipping. In total it took me about an hour to remove all the veneer. The next step was to remove sewing machine...
