Spider plant
This is the perfect plant for a hanging basket. It is easy to reproduce from plantlets that form on a long stem. They prefer well draining soil and to dry out some between watering. They prefer to be slightly pot bound as well. Spider plants do well in low light, but can handle a spot with some direct sun.
Golden pothos
This beautiful plant will start vine when it gets long enough and is a popular hanging plant. The leaves are yellow and green. If it is in low light the leaves will appear more green. They grow best in medium to bright indirect light. Water when the top soil becomes dry. The vines can trail 10 feet long.
Snake plant
They like plenty of light, but can handle less. Strong direct light may burn the leaves. Water when soil is dry, but don't overwater. They are prone to root rot. Snake plants are rapid growers and will need to be divided yearly. If your snake plant is pot bound it may even flower.
Cactus
Cacti are a great beginner plant. They are very low maintenance. They don't need to be watered very often and like lots of sun light. Cacti will do great in a south-facing window. Make sure your cacti is planted in well draining soil.
Air plants
These unique plants don't need soil to survive. They need good air flow and bright indirect light. You can mist air plants every few days to water or soak them in water for 10 minutes every two weeks. Make sure water doesn't sit on the leaves for too long. You can sit them upside down to dry the leaves.
