We were cleaning out a storage unit we bought at an auction and found these ceramic high heel shoes. Of course I saved them to use for something.
I decided pretty quickly that they would make perfect planters for succulents. I brought them home and cleaned them up. Next I added a small layer of soil to the inside. I started with the plant I was going to put at the top of the shoe by the heel. Once I put it in I filled around the succulent with more soil packing it down slightly to help the succulent stay in place. I continued the same process with the rest of the succulents until I had them all where I wanted them.
I have moonstone at the very top, then Aeonium black rose, next is pulido's echeveria, and the vining plant is sedum stone crop. Since this one was finished I started one the next one. I had just got my ultimate succulent club box from Mountain crest gardens and decided to use some of those succulents for my next arrangement.
The next one proved to be a little more difficult. I decided to use a different soil mixture. It contained chicken grit instead of perlite, which I hadn't really loved. My first step was to mix the soil with the chicken grit. I used a ration of 2 parts chicken grit 1 part potting soil. The chicken grit does add some weight, but so far I like it a lot more than the perlite I was previously using. Next I put a small layer of the gritty mixture into the shoe and started at the top again. The succulent was a little harder to get to stand up well without leaning down, but I still got it to work. I continued to place succulents in and fill the top with my gritty soil until I was happy with the placement.
This one has lavender scallops at the top, pink jelly bean, string of pearls, and string of dolphins. I love the way these turned out. They look amazing sitting on my shelves. If you try this or have made something similar leave a comment below I would love to hear from you!
Looks amazing!what a creative idea.
