My husband bought two vintage sewing machine table. He had a project in mind for one, but the other one was just collecting dust in our laundry room. I decided I was going to find something to do with it and since I am obsessed with plants naturally I was going to find a way to use it for my some plants.
I of course forgot to get a picture before I started removing the veneer from the top. This was the first step and a long process I used a putty knife to get under the veneer a pull it up.
The veneer on the drawer also had to be removed since it was already chipping. In total it took me about an hour to remove all the veneer. The next step was to remove sewing machine out from the inside and to measure the hole. I had to find something that would fit in the open spot and that would work well for succulents. I ended up getting a plastic tote. The tote wasn't the exact size I need, but was pretty close.
I also got dark red metallic paint the brand I used was Rust-Oleum Metallic accents Rust-Oleum 253601 Metallic Accents Paint, Quart, Champagne. I knew where I wanted put put it when I finished it and knew the dark red would match my curtains well. The next step was to drill holes in the bottom of the tote since succulents like well draining soil. Then I got to work on painting. Once the painting was done I realized I had missed a step and still needed to sand the outside of the lid and the drawer, so that was my next step.
It was a bit messy and it took me a while to get it all dusted off after ward, but I could now finish painting.
Once I finished with the painting I decided I wanted to fill in the space on the sides. I decided to order some chicken wire and dried Spanish moss off of amazon and as soon as it arrived I got to work cutting and stapling the chicken wire to the out table. I added Spanish moss on top the chicken wire and tucked it in a bit to keep it all in place. This entire project ended up costing me less than $40 dollars and I love the way it ended up looking. Plus my plants seem pretty happy. If you have any questions about how I made this or have made something similar leave a comment below I would love to hear from you!
