Stick a succulent in it!

I bought three cute vintage truck at menards to use for succulent arrangements. You can also use a toy truck for this if you want. Once I got home a drilled a hole into the bed of the trucks. Succulents need good drainage to stay healthy, since they are prone to root rot. I planned to put it outside so I filled it with a gritty soil mixture 2 parts chicken grit 1 part succulent and cactus. I used jelly bean succulents, ogres ear, and string of pearls to make one arrangement. The white truck has ogre ears, sedums, and chocolate soldier. Then I used tiger tooth aloe, aloe vera, climbing aloe, and lace aloe for the red truck.

The succulents I used all have similar light and watering needs which is important when making a succulent arrangement. If there needs are very different all of your plants will not be able to stay healthy in the same arrangement. You can use whatever succulents or cacti you would like just make sure their needs are similar.

This white truck is larger than the mint green truck. I decided to fill it in more than I did with the mint green truck as well. The mint green truck has string of pearls and jelly beans that I want to see fill in the excess space and trail down the truck. With the white truck I did not use any trailing succulents. Instead with the white truck I did succulents in a variety of colors. Ogre ears are mostly green with red tips. The chocolate soldier is green with brown around the edges. Some of the sedums are blue with a slight lavender color and the other sedums are an orange color. This arrangement really catches your eye with all of the colors mixed together. Whatever you choose to do have fun with it!

The red truck I decided to use to show case my love of aloes. I have 5 different types of aloe currently and multiples of most of them. Aloe was one of the first plants I ever owned and is what made me start loving succulents and plants. I filled in the red truck with 9 aloe plants. The biggest thing to keep in mind is how each aloe grows. Each aloe grows a little different some stay short and some like climbing aloe grow really tall. The way I planted them should give each of them a room to grow a little without getting overcrowded. Aloes need to be repotted yearly and when that time comes I will use their pups to make another aloe arrangement. If you have tried this idea or something similar let me know what plants you used and how it turned out. I would love to hear from you!
