Tradescantia zebrina also know as inch worm or wandering jew is a vining plant that is very popular due to is unique colors. Tradescantia zebrina will grow beautifully and quickly if put outside for the summer. They are not cold tolerant so bring them in before the first frost.
Light
Tradescantia zebrina are kind of picky about light. Indoors tradescantia zebrina will do great in an east or west facing window. They will get lots of natural light in the morning with an east facing window or evening light with west facing window and will receive bright indirect light the rest of the day. This is important for tradescantia zebrina too much light will burn their leaves. If they don't receive enough light their leaves will fade and look dull. Outdoors tradescantia zebrina would prefer a partially shaded area where it can be protected from hot afternoon sun.
Watering
Tadescantia zebrina likes to be watered regularly. Keep the soil moist, but not soaked. They do not like to dry out. Tadescantia zebrina can tolerate occasional over watering, but make sure to not regularly over water. Water your plant deeply until water drains out the pot. You can also bottom water tadescantia zebrina. Fill a bucket, bowl, or sink with water and stick your pot into it. Tadescantia zebrina do not need to be fertilized, but you can fertilize once a month in spring and summer. Mix fertilizer to half strength. Do not fertilize during fall and winter. They enjoy humidity. Place your plant in your bathroom or kitchen to give it some humidity. If you can't place it in one of these rooms you can mist your plant regularly or use a pebble tray to provide humidity.
Soil
Avoid potting mix that holds moisture. Tadescantia zebrina needs a well draining soil. It is not too picky about soil. Regular potting soil should work fine. Take care to not over water your plant though. If you tend to over water plants some perlite can be added to your soil.
Propagation
Tadescantia zebrina is easy to propagate. The easiest way to propagate is by sticking cuttings from your plant in water. To start taking cuttings use clean sterilized scissors and cut just be above a leaf. Then cut the lower leaves from the cutting. This will leave nodes for roots to grow from. Place the stem into water leaving the remaining leaves out of the water. Keep an eye on your cuttings and add more water when needed. Once your cuttings have roots that are 1"-2" long you can move your cuttings into soil. Once you plant your cutting in soil water them thoroughly. Then place them in an east or west facing window.
