I got one of my wish list cactus off of Etsy this week from East coast succulents. I had been wanting one for a while and my husband ordered it for me. The botanical name for boobie cactus is myrtillocactus geometrizans var. ‘Fukurokuryuzinboku’. They are a hard cactus to find, but are growing in popularity. They get their name due to their unique look. Boobie cactus flower in the spring. These cactus can grow 2'-3' and will be about 4" wide.
Light
When the cactus is small it doesn't need to be placed in the brightest location, but once it gets bigger than about 3" it will need to be moved. Boobie cactus prefer to been in the brightest location you have. A south facing window is ideal. A curtain or shade cloth can be used during the hottest parts of summer if your cactus is showing signs of being scorched.
Soil
Boobie cactus need a well draining cactus soil. Cactus are prone to root rot if not in a well draining soil. I make my own mixture using 1 part potting soil 2 part chicken grit.
Watering
Water boobie cactus regularly during their growing season from spring until September. Allow the soil to dry out between each watering. If you see the boobs starting to wrinkle it is time to water. In winter cacti are dormant and do not need or want as much water. During winter if you plant is inside your house where it is in a warm climate water when they boobs look a wrinkly and only water enough to plump them back up. Fertilize these cactus one every 3 weeks during growing season with a succulent fertilizer.
